Park plow crews have punched through the Big Drift and were working on removing snow at the Logan Pass visitor center on Glacier National Park’s Going-to-the-Sun Road, park spokeswoman Gina Icenoggle said Friday.

Snow depths around the center are about 12 feet deep. The bathroom, for example, showed just its roof earlier this week.

The road still needs to be widened through drifts. There's still log guardrails to install and plenty of rocks to remove from the road.

“Still lots to do before the road can open,” Icenoggle noted.

The road this weekend is open to hikers and bikers on west side to Big Bend, about three miles from the pass. On the east side it’s closed at No Stump Point.

The road to Kintla Lake and the Kintla Lake campground is now open.

Most other park secondary roads are now open for the season as well. This weekend is supposed to be warm and sunny, with a chance of thunderstorms later Sunday.
