Tennis squads do well, divisional tourney this week in Libby

The Columbia Falls tennis teams turned in strong performances in duals against Corvallis and Hamilton on Saturday, May 10, racking up multiple wins across both the boys and girls squads.

Against Corvallis, the girls picked up three victories. Ashlyn Dunham won by forfeit in singles, while the doubles teams of Alanis Petersen/Aliyah Arends (6-1, 6-4) and Campbell LaCasse/Ava Scholz (6-0, 6-1) earned straight-set wins.

The boys claimed four wins. Jack Austin rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-4 win, and Brady Heitz rolled 6-0, 6-1. In doubles, Will Pickard/Silas Ympa won in three sets, while Jax Ramage/Sol Masters cruised 6-0, 6-3.

Columbia Falls was even stronger against Hamilton. The girls earned five wins, led by singles victories from Ella Heppner and Fiona Bryant. All three doubles teams — Petersen/Arends, Love/Yerian, and LaCasse/Scholz — picked up wins.

The boys took six of seven matches. Bruno Vazquez won a three-set battle, and Austin, Oberholtzer, and Heitz also won in singles. All three doubles teams earned victories, with Pickard/Ympa and Ramage/Masters again prevailing.

Columbia Falls tennis earned a sweep over Bigfork and notched two wins against Whitefish during matches on May 6 and 8.

Against Whitefish, the girls’ doubles team of Ava Scholz and Campbell LaCasse earned a three-set victory (4-6, 6-4, 6-3), while Silas Ypma and William Oberholtzer rallied for a 1-6, 6-1, 6-2 doubles win on the boys’ side.

The Wildcats dominated Bigfork two days later. The boys swept 7-0 with singles wins from Jack Austin and Brady Heitz, plus doubles wins from Ramage/Masters and Vazquez/Oberholtzer. Three matches were won by forfeit.

The girls picked up five wins. Ella Heppner and Fiona Bryant earned singles victories, while Apani Awua and the doubles teams of Petersen/Arends and Scholz/LaCasse won, including two by forfeit.
