Columbia Falls has strong performance at ABC, home dual

Columbia Falls track and field athletes put together a series of standout performances at the Nelson-Thomas ABC Meet in Polson Saturday, May 10.

In the field events, senior Oliver Kress soared to a personal-best 14 feet to win the boys pole vault. In the girls 800 meters, senior Chloe Savoy raced to the top of the podium with a time of 2:24.02, holding off a strong field. In the girls 3,200 meters, Findley Dezzani won with a PR of 12:13.04.

The Columbia Falls girls also came out on top in the 4x400-meter relay, with Savoy joining Mya Badger, Ashley Andrews, and Peyton Ross to win the event in 4:16.29. 

In the boys discus, Lane Voermans led the field with a winning throw of 167-4.

The teams showcased their depth and talent at the Dr. Nicosia Cat Pack Dual on Thursday, May 8.

On the boys side, senior Jack Phelps powered the Wildcats with two individual victories. He took the 100 meters in 11.57 seconds, then returned to dominate the 400 meters in 50.21. Phelps also helped lead Columbia Falls to victory in the 4x100-meter relay, teaming up with Jaydon Lapierre, Trip Ross, and Jett Brandeberry for a winning time of 44.07.

Columbia Falls’ Isak Soyland cleared 14 feet for the win in the pole vault. Sophomore Banyan Johnston added a win in the high jump at 6-2.

On the girls’ side, freshman Peyton Ross led the way in the sprints, winning the 200 meters in 28.73. Aubrey Smith picked up an individual win in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.82, while freshman Devyn Shough placed first in the 300-meter hurdles (57.55). Mila Johns cruised to a win in the 800 meters with a 2:30.92 finish, and Findley Dezzani claimed the 1,600 meters in 5:34.47.

In the field, Courtney Hussion won the high jump with a clearance of 5 feet.
