The Glacier Twins packed in a busy stretch of American Legion baseball this past week, earning a split in a road doubleheader at South Valley on Wednesday before battling through two tough games against powerhouse Bitterroot on Saturday.

Glacier nearly came away with a sweep in South Valley, dropping a close 6-5 opener before bouncing back in a big way with a 17-6 rout in the nightcap.

In Game 1, the Twins out-hit South Valley 9-3 but couldn’t quite erase an early deficit. Collison Lewis (2-for-4), Joaquin Gonzalez (2-for-2), and Ryder Conley (2-for-3) led the way offensively, each adding doubles. Glacier chipped away with runs in each of the final four innings, but South Valley hung on.

Keaton Simpach and Connor Magnuson combined for eight strikeouts on the mound in a gritty pitching effort.

The bats came alive in Game 2, with the Twins exploding for 17 runs on 12 hits. Every spot in the order contributed, led by Gonzalez (2-for-2, 3 RBIs), Kiernan RK (2-for-3, 2 RBIs), and Conley (3 RBIs). Glacier strung together multi-run innings throughout, including a six-run fifth that put the game out of reach.

On the mound, Gonzalez started and worked four innings, while RK closed with three innings of relief to secure the win.

Tough test against Bitterroot

Saturday’s doubleheader at Bitterroot saw the Twins go toe-to-toe with one of the region’s top teams, coming up just short in a 7-6 Game 1 loss before falling 17-1 in the nightcap.

In the opener, Glacier jumped out early with two runs in the first and second innings, powered by Nolan Amerman’s big day at the plate. Amerman went 3-for-3 with a double, home run, and three RBIs, keeping Glacier in front until a four-run fifth by Bitterroot turned the game.

Starter Trenton Derosa battled through 6 1/3 innings, striking out three.

Game 2 proved more one-sided, as Bitterroot plated five in the first and never looked back. Amerman again provided the lone offensive highlight with his second home run of the day.
