Glacier Park sees busiest May ever
Visitation to Glacier National Park was up significantly in May over last year, with most of the gains being at the Goat Lick and Two Medicine. It was the busiest May on record, with 238,766 visitors.
Two Medicine was up 157.6% at 28,629 visitors, as May was a warm month and access to Many Glacier was limited due to construction. Many Glacier was down 27.1%.
The previous year, Two Medicine saw 11,112 visitors.
The Goat Lick on Highway 2 also was up nearly 100% with 11,764 visitors compared to 5,898 the previous year.
The West Entrance and St. Mary were also up, 3.9% and 3.6% respectively.
All told, visitation was up 13.9% in total, eclipsing last year’s record of 209,556 visitors.
The weather likely played a role, as May was unusually warm and dry, especially the second half of the month.
Overnight stays in Glacier, however, were down slightly, 1.3%, with 22,498 compared to 22,798 the year before. But the Many Glacier campground was closed.
