After storm, full length of Glacier National Park's Sun Road reopens
Glacier National Park announced Monday morning the Going-to-the-Sun Road had reopened for its full length after snow temporarily closed Logan Pass over the weekend.
The pass saw several inches of snow as a large storm brought beneficial rain to the park and the region after an abnormally dry June.
The road reopened about 10:30 a.m. Monday. It was closed later in the day on Friday, June 20 after being open less than a week for the summer season.
Some areas of the high country saw more than 3 inches of liquid precipitation, with about 4 inches of snow at the summit of Big Mountain in the Whitefish Range and about 10 inches estimated at Logan Pass, according to the National Weather Service in Missoula. Most of the snow fell Saturday into Sunday.
June snows in the region are not uncommon and it can snow in Glacier any month of the year. Last year it snowed in August in the high country of the park.
The Park Service also noted that the Hidden Lake Trail has been closed temporarily to the overlook at Logan Pass due to a snow hazard.
