James “Jim” M. Brittenham, 78

James “Jim” Marvin Brittenham, 78, went to go be with his Lord and Savior on April 7, 2025. He was born Oct. 22, 1946 in Kalispell, to Marvin Dell Brittenham and Clara Bell Brittenham (McNaney).  

He taught Industrial Arts (Woodshop) at the Whitefish Jr. High School for 29 years. He then worked for Vandevanter Meats until he fully retired. He also went into business with his in-laws, and he was the main caretaker of the animals at The Trap Zoo. 

Jim was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Whitefish. He participated in Meals on Wheels and enjoyed going to the Senior Center. He was a master craftsman who enjoyed creating various wood projects, working on his cars, and maintaining the family home. In his free time, Jim also enjoyed reading, camping, fishing, and boating. 

After he graduated from Columbia Falls High School he attended Northern Montana College. He married the love of his life, Sharon Vandevanter, on September 16, 1967.

Jim is survived by his wife of 57 years, Sharon Brittenham; children: Patrick Brittenham (Tamara) and Jody Brittenham (Trisha); 5 grandchildren: Talyn, Sydney, Amélie, Lachlann, and Saoirse; siblings: Bill Brittenham (Shannon) and Celie Erikson (Kevin); and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Beverly Arriaga, and two baby brothers. 

A celebration of Jim’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Whitefish, 6232 US Highway 93 S, Whitefish, MT 59937. Family and friends may begin to visit on Tuesday starting at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Whitefish or the ALS Foundation.
