Wildkats drop Ronan, Whitefish, but struggle against Bigfork

The Columbia Falls girls basketball team went 2-1 last week. The Wildkats avenged an earlier season loss by beating Ronan 50-40 Friday night at home, but lost to Bigfork 75-49 Saturday night at home. On Tuesday they beat Whitefish on the road, 55-28.
The Kats played great defense against the Lady Maidens.
“We made every possession really difficult,” coach Jeremy Grilley said.
The Kats were led by Taryn Borgen with 14, Alexa Friske had eight at the point and Maddy Barker had nine.
Against Bigfork, the Gunlock girls had a big night. Braeden had 36 and Paeten had 16 for the Valkyries.
“(Bigfork) made a lot of tough shots,” Grilley noted.
Once Bigfork built a lead, the Kats fell into some bad habits and Bigfork was able to capitalize on the turnovers.
Emalee Alton had 12 points in the loss, while Onnikka Lawrence had 10.
Against the Bulldogs, Lawrence led the squad with 14. The Kats held the Lady Bulldogs to just 10 points in the second half.
The Kats will look to finish strong in the next couple of weeks as they round out the regular season.
The week after they host Browning and then travel to Polson to cap off the regular season. If they win out, they’d be assured second in the conference and would face the third-place Southwest team in the Western A divisional tourney.
