Museum hoping to find a bigger space
The Columbia Falls Historical Society is hoping to find a bigger location to showcase its displays and collections.
Right now it’s in a small office in the Gateway Building off Nucleus Avenue. But the collection has outgrown the space. The Society first opened the museum in 2022.
Since then it has amassed collection of memorabilia from the Columbia Falls Aluminum Co., the local timber industry, the Hungry Horse News, and the Backcountry Horsemen of the Flathead to name a few.
“We’ve been looking,” for more space, said Peg Sorensen of the Society. “We have no storage. We also have no place to have presentations.”
The Society has slowly, but surely also been doing oral histories and short films interviewing historical figures.
The Society was founded in 2008 to preserve the history of the northeast corner of Flathead County, including Columbia Falls, Hungry Horse, Martin City, West Glacier, Glacier National Park, and the North, Middle and South Forks of the Flathead River.
