Cats nab three key conference wins
The Columbia Falls boys basketball team got three key conference wins last week, dropping Ronan 57-37 at home Friday and then coming back to beat Bigfork 52-46 at home Saturday and they walloped Whitefish Tuesday on the road,
Against Ronan the Wildcats were led by Bjorn Pedersen with 19. Cooper Ross had 12 off the bench and Silas Ypma had his best scoring game of the season with 11.
The win evened the score against Ronan, as the Chiefs beat the Cats earlier this season in Ronan.
“We played well start to finish,” coach Chris Finberg said. “It was a complete game.”
Against Bigfork, the Wildcats were down by nine at the break and then held Bigfork to just five points in the fourth to pull away for the win as they went on a 13-0 run with about 7 minutes to play.
Jory Hill and Reggie Sapa led the team with 12 in the win. Sapa had nine rebounds as well. The Cats had a tough time from beyond the arc, shooting just 24%. But they shot 48% from the field and had just seven turnovers.
Pedersen led the Cats against the Bulldogs with 15, Easton Brooks had 14 as 10 players got in the scoring column.
Right now the boys are 13-2 overall and 8-1 in conference play.
If they win out these last three games, they’d win the conference title.
