The Lion’s Club was presenting the play, “Rose of Rattlesnake Flat” which included a man dressed in drag. Len Gray had a year-old black bear cub that he dressed up and used in shows and on TV. The front page featured photos of the bear on a horse and in a suit with a pistol on its hip.

April 30, 1965
Glacier National Park announced new fishing regulations that mirrored state regulations at the time, which said a person could keep 10 pounds and one fish not to exceed ten fish. Today Glacier is primarily catch and release.

May 2, 1975
There were plans for a four-lane road between Coram and West Glacier beginning in 1976 and four lanes between Coram and Hungry Horse in 1977 on Highway 2. The state also planned “beautification” along the highway.

The plans to expand U.S. Highway 2 from Hungry Horse to West Glacier into four lanes were taking shape (delayed 10 years, see above entry). This time an $8.4 million contract was actually awarded to Hilde Construction of Great Falls.

Russ Landt was retiring as the road crew chief in Glacier National Park’s effort to clear the Going-to-the-Sun Road. Landt had been clearing the road each spring for 33 straight years.

Flathead County explained why it doesn’t charge for rescues. For one, a mill levy covered the cost of rescue services at the time and secondly, they didn’t want people to not call 911 because they thought they may get a bill for a rescue.
