The Columbia Falls baseball team went 3-0 on the week, including a key conference victory over Polson at home Friday, 5-0.

Sophomore Jett Pitts threw a complete game shut out, giving up just two hits while striking out 15 against the Pirates.

“He pitched very well in a big game against a solid team,” coach Chad Green said.

The Cats put up runs in the first, second and fourth innings, including some nice production from the bottom of the lineup. Treyson Murphy had a double and Wyatt Dodson followed that up with a deep single to drive Murphy home in the second. Cooper Ross then hit a deep pop fly, there was an error on the catch and Dodson scored to put the Cats up 3-0 in a key inning.

On Tuesday the Cats beat Ronan 13-3 and Saturday they walloped Plains-Hot Springs 15-0. Both games were at home. Highlight of the Plains game was a walk-off home run by senior Aidyn Williams which ended the game under the mercy rule. It was Williams first hit of the season and his first homer ever, Green said. He hadn’t hit one at the junior varsity level or even batting practice for that matter.

Against Ronan the game was a bit tighter than the score would suggest.

The Cats were up 4-3 after four, but exploded for six runs in the fifth and three in the bottom of the sixth and the game ended on the 10-run rule.

Nico Young led the squad with four RBIs and Brady Matson had two RBIs and went 4-for-4 at the plate. Young hit a homer with two on the first inning.

Murphy got the win on the mound, striking out six. Trenton DeRosa struck out seven in the win over Plains-Hot Springs.

The wins keep the Wildcats in first place in the conference. They have one loss so far this season and are 9-1.

They played Noxon/Thompson Falls on Tuesday after presstime and then host Browning Thursday. The big game this week is Friday at Eureka.

The Lions are 9-2 on the season.
