Columbia Falls finished the season sweep of Libby, downing the Loggers 9-2 on Thursday, Sept. 19. in boys soccer.

“We took a much-needed three days off after that win after four games in eight days; our guys were physically exhausted,” Byrd said.

Libby took the 1-0 lead midway through the first half, but Bruno Felijo’s penalty kick goal, followed by Maxwell Everett’s first of his three goals to take the lead, was the catalyst for a Northwestern A blowout.

“You have to talk about him; he is the state’s leading scorer and, with 23 goals on the season, has five games to set the school record in goals and break the state record in goals as well,” Byrd said. “Some high scorers never make it to a state final, but look at him, he had a hat trick against Whitefish. He rises to the occasion.”

Columbia Falls led 4-1 at halftime, with Otto Anderson and Everett scoring again before the break, assisted by River Wolford on both goals.

Everett would complete another hat trick after halftime, while Wolford, Jack Harris, Silas Ympa, and Feligo would score in the second half for the victory.

“We have things to work on and get better from after the Whitefish game and Libby,” Byrd said. “At our practices, we push hard, and our guys don’t lose focus. We don’t change the way we play regardless of the competition.”
