Girls soccer: Cats down Bulldogs at home to take conference crown

The Columbia Falls girls' soccer team wrapped up the regular season and took the North A conference title by beating Whitefish at home Tuesday, 1-0.

Isla Alexander’s goal in the ninth minute, a sweet floater that went up and over the over the goalie's head was all the Cats as needed as they dominated possession against the Bulldogs.

“The girls came out on fire and scored a goal early,” Columbia Falls coach Thomas Clark said. “Evie Dorr found Isla Alexander and Isla had a great shot outside the box. We have been working a lot on utilizing our wingbacks more and it was awesome to see her get a goal from that spot.” 

It was Alexander’s 12th goal for the Wildkats, who ended the season 9-2-1 overall and 6-1-1 in league matches.

The girls now face the third team from the South in the playoffs. A time and date hasn't been set.

The Cats drubbed Libby 10-0 on Thursday, Oct. 3.

Onnikka Lawrence scored three goals in the matchup, while Riley Byrd, Mila Johns, and Isla Alexander scored two goals apiece. Alexander also posted two assists.

The Wildcats led 7-0 at halftime and added onto that in the second half. 

Taylor Rodgers also had goal and two assists in the matchup. In all, Columbia Falls had 20 shots on goal, and Libby had one. The Wildcats also had eight corner kicks.
