Early storm boosts snowpack to 200% of average in some areas
Forget a white Christmas. We're definitely having a white Thanksgiving.
Last week's big storm led to some nice snowfall totals for skiers and snow lovers.
The Glacier Park International Airport reported 7.2 inches of snow, but 1.84 inches of precipitation total as it seemed to be the battleground between the cold air from the east and the warmer air from the west, according to National Weather Service meteorologist Brian Conlan.
Snotel sites in higher terrain are running above average for this time of year. The Noisy Basin the Swan Range is currently 211% of average and Emery Creek along the east side of the Hungry Horse Reservoir is 206% of average.
But in Glacier National Park, at Flattop Mountain the snowpack is just slightly above average at 104%.
There’s still plenty of winter to go, of course.
This week there’s a chance of rain and snow every day, with highs in the 30s and lows in the mid-teens, though no major storms are expected.
