The Columbia Falls speech and debate team took first in the A-B-C sweeps at the Garden City AA Invitational tourney last weekend in Missoula.

Schools from both the east and west side of the state were in attendance, competing over two days.

“Our students competed against the biggest schools in the state with the top three AA Glacier, Flathead, and Bozeman all in attendance,” coach Dawn Roe said. “Two-day tournaments require stamina as competitors have three rounds of competition on day one; usually completing their day after 10 p.m. Everyone was back at the tournament by 7:30 a.m. for the second day of competition which didn’t conclude until 8 p.m.  Maintaining focus during these long days can be difficult.  However, the team did well with half of them breaking into the semifinaIs with the top 16 of their event.”

The Wildcats’ top placers were:

Reed Wollenzien and Carson Settles, 1st in Duo Interp

Eleanor Smiley, 4th in Memorized Public Address

Tia Marie Poor, 5th in Humorous Interp

Allycyn Palmer and Merrick Fairchild, 6th in Duo Interp

Merell Cooley 8th in Memorized Public Address
