Talent abounds in our local Teakettle Quilt Guild, and our annual quilt show was surely a magnificent display. This one-day event is planned for months in advance by the guild and its members, and in one short evening the Glacier Gateway Elementary School is transformed into an impressive gallery of quilts, wall hangings, antiques, and a boutique for shopping.

Dozens of volunteers arrive Friday evening, each person taking on one small portion of the event, and each component is carried out in such a fashion in which no one denies the thought and planning that goes into the execution of the setup. With 141 quilt entries to show, no space is wasted in the process, and the finished display is such an astounding array of color and design, in a full spectrum of traditional to more modern styles.

Over 500 people attended the show, making for a bustling environment, inspiring some to purchase patterns and kits from local vendors on site. Many attendees enjoy the boutique that the guild members stock with handmade items, such as quilts, bags, table runners and placemats, zippered pouches and wallets, potholders and pincushions, to name a few.

The guild raffles off a quilt each year, as well as some gift baskets loaded with handmade items. The drawing for the quilt and baskets was held at the end of the quilt show.  Donations for the Columbia Falls Food Bank are collected, and our attendees gave generously to the cause donating over $500 and 224 pounds of food.

Raffle tickets for next year’s quilt go on sale in August, for the final raffle to be held on the second Saturday in April 2025.

Teakettle Quilt Guild meets on the third Saturday of the month at 10 a.m., at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, 401 7th St West, Columbia Falls. All are welcome.
