Lions, Weyerhaeuser support reading programs
The Columbia Falls Lions Club has partnered with the Weyerhaeuser Foundation to support Columbia Falls school programs.
The Lions and Weyerhaeuser donated volunteer time and money this school year to provide backpacks and school supplies earlier this school year; and last week provided a $4,500 donation to School District 6 help fund the Bookmobile.
The Bookmobile serves students and families all across School District 6, delivering free books and food to children to help prevent learning loss in the summer months. In a year-long effort working with District 6 child advocates, the Columbia Falls Lions, with a matching grant from Weyerhaeuser, were able to provide significant support to these valuable programs.
The total funding for both programs was $7,000, noted Lion Mike Stratton.
The $4,500 will be used to buy books for students for Bookmobile program. Studies have found that kids who read during the summer months do that much better when school starts back up in the fall.
The Lions Club and Weyerhaeuser officials provided the Bookmobile with a check last week during its monthly luncheon at the Back Room.
