Columbia Falls drop Chiefs in a chilly home opener
The Columbia Falls baseball team got a pair of wins last week, squeaking in its first home game Thursday night under threatening skies, as they thumped Ronan 14-4. Earlier in the week they came from behind to beat Polson 18-10 on the road.
The Wildcats are now 3-0 on the young season.
Against the Chiefs, Ronan scored four runs in the top of the first inning, but the Cats responded with six runs in the bottom of the stanza. they added two more in the second and capped the game off with six in the bottom of the fourth to 10-run rule the Chiefs.
The Chiefs failed to strike out a single Wildcat. Reggie Sapa had a triple and two RBIs in the win. Cody Schweikert and AC Chilson also had a pair of RBIs as well.
Chilson doubled in the bottom of the fourth to drive in two runs and Sapa’s triple came that same inning to drive in a run.
Against Polson, the Pirates were up 8-1 after three innings, but the Cats scored four in the top of the fourth and four more in the top of the fifth to go ahead.
The Cats went up 10-8 in the top of the sixth, but Polson added a run in the bottom of the inning then tied it in the bottom of the seventh.
Schweikert went 3 for 4 in the win with three singles and two RBIs. Kellen Kroger had two RBIs and Connor Venezio had three RBIs. The Cats are on the road this week, an away game against Corvallis Thursday and an away game against Browning Saturday.
