Boys snag a pair of big conference wins

| January 24, 2024 2:00 AM

The Columbia Falls boys basketball team had a solid week, dropping Browning in a come-from-behind victory against Browning Friday, 52-49 and then hammered Polson 61-41 on the road Saturday.

Cody Schweikert led the boys against Browning with 15 points and 9 rebounds, which was impressive as he was in foul trouble twice in the game.

The boys were down by eight at one point in the game, only to come back. They had the turnover bug — 14 in the first half, which didn’t help.

Coming back from the deficit showed the “grit and toughness” of the team, coach Chris Finberg said.

The Polson game was never really close. Dayne Tu had a great game 16 points and Alihn Anderson had 17 for his best game of the season.

Schweikert didn’t play, as he had a visit at the University of Montana, where he recently signed to play football for the Griz.

The boys are now 3-1 in conference and 5-5 overall. They host Ronan Thursday for “ballers and brawlers” which includes two basketball games as well as a wrestling dual Thursday at 8 p.m. They then travel to Bigfork Saturday. Game time is 4:15 p.m.
