Reservations at Big Mountain ski resort were up 12% over the previous year. Whitey the horse, which lived at Frank Hamilton’s house between Coram and West Glacier was one smart pony. It could turn the doorknob and would let itself into the house. In the summer the horse would turn the outside water nozzle on and then pick up the hose for a drink.

North American Weather Consultants was seeking a license to do cloud seeding up the South Fork in 1975. Before it could commence, there would need to be a public hearing. They had a license for 1974, but November and December were unusually wet, so they didn’t try.

The Air Force had announced it would do B-52H bomber training flights over Glacier National Park once a month from almost two years. Plenty of people had concerns about that, considering the flight route went right over Logan Pass.

The City of Columbia Falls was looking at developing an industrial park north of Railroad Street for a cabinet shop and other businesses. It never fully panned out, though there are some businesses there today.

Plum Creek successfully had its assessment for some of its mills lowered in Columbia Falls and the hit to the school district amounted to about $131,000 in less tax revenue in ‘04 and more than $200,000 in ‘05.

The Columbia Falls Aluminum Co. Cleanup might start soon, it was thought at the time, but in the same breath, the company announced it had broken off talks with the state Department of Environmental Quality over the cleanup plans. The cleanup hasn’t really started, 10 years later.
