The Columbia Falls Food Bank got a Thanksgiving boost last week after Weyerhaeuser employees donated 80 turkeys.

The company donates a turkey to each employee every Thanksgiving, but many opt out and donate their turkey to the food bank. It’s on ongoing tradition.

The food bank is currently serving about 130 families from all walks of life, noted longtime co-director Jan VonLindern, who runs the facility with her daughter, Ann Bohmer.

The food bank is always in need of donations. The particular need is tuna fish, ravioli, canned fruit, pasta of any kind and canned chili.

The bank facility itself is completely paid for, built by a donor back in 2007 after the former Klothes Kloset sold the bank the lot for $1, VonLindern noted.

They added a warehouse since and own two lots to the south for expansion if need be. They hope to get a van and a garage someday, she said.
