Glacier National Park's Sun Road reopens over Logan Pass
The Going-to-the-Sun Road has reopened after being closed yesterday afternoon and overnight due to snow and ice.
The road reopened about about 11:20 a.m. Thursday morning. Glacier National Park officials closed the alpine section from Avalanche Creek to Jackson Glacier overlook down about 2 p.m. yesterday afternoon after snow hit Glacier’s high country.
Snow can fall any month of the year in Glacier, but August snows are fairly uncommon.
The Park Service said the Highline Trail between Granite Park Chalet and Logan Pass is temporarily closed due to slush and snow and the Hidden Lake Trail is closed as well.
Temperatures were in the 30s in the higher terrain in Glacier overnight.
They’ll rebound significantly over the weekend, with highs in the 80s.
The trails are expected to reopen once the snow melts. Hikers should be prepared for snow in all higher terrain trails at least for a little while. The snow won’t last long in 80- degree weather.
