The Columbia Falls City Council last week approved a pay agreement for acting city manager Clint Peters — the same salary as he received as police chief.

Peters, the former police chief, retired in early August and has been filling in as city manager since former city manager Susan Nicosia retired at the end of June.

Now Peters will be done with the interim position on Sept. 2. By all accounts, he did an admirable job filling in on short notice and told council he was grateful for the opportunity. Peters, however, doesn’t have the background in accounting that Nicosia did.

Under Peters interim agreement approved by council, he’ll be paid the same salary he received as police chief, plus 9.07% contribution into a deferred compensation account set up through Nationwide.

It is not an increase in benefits or salary, but since he’s retired from the police force, he can no longer contribute to the police retirement fund.
