Baseball gets key win against Eureka
The Columbia Falls baseball squad got a big win at home last week, dropping Eureka 6-3 Tuesday for a key conference victory.
Lincoln County put up a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but the Wildcats answered with two runs of their own when Cody Schweikert hit a single with two on to tie it. The Lions would add a run in the top of the second, but Columbia Falls answered with two in the bottom of the third after Schweikert hit a fielder’s choice with two on. The Cats then put up runs in the bottom of the fourth and fifth.
Reggie Sapa was 2 for 3 with an RBI and Schweikert had four RBIs in the win.Freshman Jett Pitts started, giving up two hits, while striking out three over four innings. Pitts did nice job of getting out of bases loaded jam in the first. Matt Mitts and Kellen Kroger combined for three innings of relief.
On Friday the Cats tripped up Stevensville 10-5, but lost to Belgrade on the road 6-5. Sapa got the win on the mound against the Yellowjackets, while Kroger had three RBIs and Mitts had two in the victory.
Against Belgrade the Cats were up 3-2 after five, but the Panthers answered with four in the bottom of the sixth. Columbia Falls would put up two more runs in the top of the seventh, but the rally fell just short as Mitts struck out looking with the tying run on second.
The Cats play a doubleheader against Bigfork in Evergreen at the fields on East Reserve Drive Thursday starting at 2 p.m. They have a doubleheader against Browning Saturday on the road.
