Tennis opens with win over Ronan

Columbia Falls High School tennis started their season with a home match against Ronan Tuesday, April 2. The girls team went 5-0 and boys 4-1.

In girls singles, Lexi Oberholtzer won over Sara McConnell 6-0, 6-0; Aliyah Arends 6-1, 6-1 over Amy Snyder; and Elaina Dorr 3-6, 6-1, (10-7) over Aizhan Akhmetchanoua. In doubles, the team of Alanis Petersen and Kristina Tamburelli won 6-0, 6-0 over Maidens Chevy Reum and Yanella Tillman and Lucie Love and Fiona Bryant went 6-1, 6-1 over Addison Crawford and Kate Johnson.

In boys singles, Wildcat Brady Heitz defeated Hayden Fussell 6-1, 6-2; William Oberholtzer won 7-6 (9-7), 6-1 over Toby Cantlon; and Jax Ramage fell 1-6, 2-6 to Beau Decker. Both boys doubles teams— Logan Heupel and Will Pickard, and Silas Ypma and Oliver McDonald — won 6-0, 6-0 over Ronan. 

Against Dillon on Friday, the boys team went 4-3 and girls 3-4. 

Wildcats boys singles saw Ramage defeat Carson Fluckiger 7-5, 6-4; and Heitz 6-2, 6-2 over C.J. Dorsey. William Oberholtzer fell 6-7 (1-7), 4-6 to Zach Maki and Lane Hoerner 2-6, 3-6 to Athan Graham. Doubles team Pickard and Heupel won 6-1, 6-3 over Isaac and Zach Sandall; Ypma and McDonald 7-5, 6-3 over Milo Glossa and Daniel Leonardson. Jason Donsbach and Taiven Combs fell 3-6, 2-6 to Ben Lund and Declan Oswald.

In girls singles, Love won 6-0, 6-0 over Evelyn Tolman; Lexi Oberholtzer 6-3, 6-1 over Laura Martin; Petersen 6-4, 6-4 over Jessica Harrison. Arends lost to Dillon’s Brooklyn Williams, 1-6, 3-6. Doubles team of Petersen and Tamburelli won 6-0, 6-0 over Chevy Reum and Yanella Tillman; Love and Bryant won 6-1, 6-1 over Addison Crawford and Kate Johnson. 

The Cats will play Flathead and Glacier at Flathead Valley Community College on Tuesday after presstime. Up next, they host Polson and Libby at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. respectively Thursday, April 11.
