Wildcats thump Libby 41-0 in dominant performance
The Columbia Falls football team came off a bye and hammered conference foe Libby, 41-0, on senior night.
The Cats scored early and often as Mark Robison ran a 50-yard punt back on the Cats’ first possession to open the scoring.
Robison found the end zone again on a 12-yard pass from quarterback Cody Schweikert and then Schweikert punched it in the end zone a few plays later after Jace Hill blocked a Libby punt to put the Cats in scoring position.
By then it was 19-0 with 32 second left in the first quarter. The only mistakes were a fake extra point kick was stopped on a two-point conversion and another two point conversion failed after Schweikert’s pass fell short.
In the second quarter the Cats added another touchdown on a 20-yard pass to Hunter Goodman to put the game out of reach.
The PAT was blocked, but kicker Kai Golan then hit a 27-yard field goal as time expired to put the Cats up 28-0 at the break.
In the second half, Alihn Anderson opened up the third quarter with an 85-yard kickoff return and then Jace Hill scored on a 23-yard pass from Schweikert to cap off the scoring for the Cats as the half had a running clock.
Schweikert was 12 of 16 passing for 190 yards and the defense held Libby to just 94 yards total, including interceptions by Chance Miller and Austin Dobson.
Libby looked to run the ball, but had no success.
“We’ve been really salty against the run all year,” coach Jaxon Schweikert said.
They’ve also been holding opponents to less than 50% completion rate as well.
“We have a championship-level defense,” Schweikert said.
The Cats played their best special teams of the year.
“We place a lot of emphasis on special teams,” coach Schweikert said.
The Cats face Bigfork on the road this Friday. The Cats are 4-2 overall and 3-1 in divisional play, Bigfork is 3-4 overall and 3-2 in divisional play.
Bigfork beat Browning 54-28 last week.
