Moultray signs to play college softball in Indiana
Columbia Falls standout pitcher and hitter Maddie Moultray officially signed with St-Mary-of-the-Woods College last week.
Moultray helped lead the Wildkats to its first-ever state A softball title last season as a junior and hopes to do the same this year as a senior.
Last season she had 2.86 earned run average and batted .489 through the state tournament.
“This college is getting a great player with Maddie,” coach Dave Kehr said. “She’s worked hard.”
“I feel great,” Moultray said. “There’s a lot of stress off me to choose a college.”
St-Mary-of-the-Woods College is in St-Mary-of-the-Woods, Indiana. It’s a small, NAIA Catholic School.
Moultray pitched for Jim Walker when Walker coached her in Australia for America’s Team in a tournament last summer. They won the tourney and Walker said he got to watch her pitch 10 games. He was impressed by her play and her character.
“She’s a good student, great family,” Walker said. “She checks all the boxes when you go recruiting.”
Moultray plans on studying nursing at the school and is already planning on being a Certified Nursing Assistant at the Montana Veterans Home this summer before leaving for college in August.
