The Glacier Mountaineering Society’s 2023 magazine has been released and shows a great appreciation for former Hungry Horse News editor-publisher Brian Kennedy.

That includes the final photographs Brian made prior to last summer’s tragic accident on Dusty Star Mountain in Glacier National Park. Kennedy and Jack Beard died in a fall after their rope anchors failed during a rappel.

The Going to the Sun Journal also looks back on the lives of four local climbers lost in the past year, including founder Denis Twohig, Kennedy, Beard and Dean Stensland, an avid member of the Society, which traces its history back to 1981.

Articles on fitness, science and history let you know the range of the magazine but it’s all about Glacier. Some selected articles will be online, but to get the magazine you must join the club at $30 per year and $50 for couples. More information is at glaciermountaineers.com

Hard copies of the magazine will be available for a cash donation at the Columbia Falls Montana Coffee Traders. The suggested minimum is $5 though the magazines cost a bit more to print. Buy one for yourself and check it out.

This year’s Journal is the first under the editorship of Emmett Berg, a Kalispellian now living in San Francisco. Berg is a former Hungry Horse News reporter as well.
