How to enjoy summer, an essay

This winter, Ms. Robbins’ 7th grade English Language Arts students wrote How-To Guides. They realized that you can write a How-To Guide about just about anything; students wrote about everything from how to survive king of the hill, how to crochet, or how to find your soulmate, to how to get the best free samples at Costco! We hope you enjoy Macee’s guide to enjoying summer, as we all dream of warmer weather in our beautiful part of the world.

I’m sorry, winter. I’ve been cheating on you. No longer am I enjoying your long days of coldness, or your boring freezing days at recess. I’ve found a new love – something warmer, more fun, and, dare I say, more convenient for everyone.

I found summer…

Summer is best when you wake up to fresh glistening light filling your room. The distinct echoing of birds chirping seeping through your windows.

Summer is best when the waves of the lake create a smooth, abundant tempo of recurring stillness. When all you want to do is be outside, cradled in the warmth of the sun’s rays. Vacations booked with the anticipation for arrival. Not worrying about school, grades, teachers, or what to wear for the day… just enjoying the moment while it’s here.

It is best when the slight breeze caresses my face and body as it juts by. Children screeches like sirens as they leap into the water, leaving behind ripples as they play. The water glistens as the sun’s rays thrash, reflecting an eye-blinding brilliance. Floaties of a wide variety drift here and there. Rocks sharp enough to puncture the bottoms of your feet if you’re not careful.

Summer is best when you run to the water, sand sneaking into the crevices of your feet uninvited, slipping behind you as the pressure of your feet lift with every step, striking the back of your calves, leaving its prints behind. The cool water finally meets your body. A shock hits you by the cool early summer water. Before you know it, you’re waist deep.

Summer is best when you never want it to end.

Do’s/Don’ts of summer

Do’s:

Travel as much as possible

Hang out with friends at every given opportunity

Swim in as many bodies of water as possible

Eat Popsicles when it gets hot

Go camping!

Go somewhere new

Don’ts:

Spend summer in your house

Be on technology 24/7

Spend summer by yourself

Belly flop into water (it hurts and leaves marks!)

Think about school — just enjoy summer!

In the end, enjoying summer is the most important part of summer. Remember to simply just enjoy it while it lasts before it’s gone. Enjoy its long warm summer days, the bright blue lakes, the family barbecues, And, yes, even the annoying sand stuck in the crevices of your feet. You’ll miss it once it’s gone.

I’m sorry, winter, although your holidays are the best, you’re simply overrated.
