Boys beat Troy, but blanked by Bulldogs

| May 3, 2023 2:00 AM

The Columbia Falls baseball team split the bill last week, thumping Class B Troy 18-2 at home Thursday, but they had a tougher time on the road Friday against Whitefish, losing 8-0.

Kellen Kroger had a homer against the Trojans and Reggie Sapa and Dayne Tu had doubles as the Wildcats put up 16 runs in the second to break a 2-2 tie after the first.

Alihn Anderson, Sapa and Jace Hill all pitched an inning in the game, which was over in three innings due to the mercy rule. They gave up no hits.

Against the Bulldogs, Sapa got the start again — he went three innings giving up just one hit and striking out three.

But the Bulldogs blew it open with four runs in the bottom of the fourth against Kroger in relief. The Cats also couldn’t get the bats going against Bulldogs, as starter Ty Schwaiger went five innings, gave up two hits and struck out 12.

The Cats are now 3-3 on the season.

They host conference rival Polson Thursday at home at 7 p.m. They travel to Eureka Friday and Browning Monday.
