Of wildlife, wetlands and rivers
I am writing to you today to express my concern about the proposed zone change that could potentially destroy our pristine river, wildlife corridor and wetlands in Columbia Falls.
The proposed construction of this that involves boring under the Flathead River is a reckless disregard for the environment and public health. This project can have significant ecological impacts and put the lives of many living creatures in danger.
The construction of the sewage line can disturb the riverbed, affecting the flow and the aquatic ecosystem, and the destruction of the wildlife and wetlands corridors can cause irreparable harm to the environment. It is heart-breaking to even imagine the loss of wildlife habitat, which would lead to fragmentation of habitats and loss of biodiversity.
The beauty of Columbia Falls lies in its natural surroundings, its vibrant wildlife and its wetlands, and to even consider sacrificing these treasures for the sake of a profit-driven project is unfathomable. We must not forget that these habitats serve an essential purpose in maintaining a balance in the ecosystem, providing a safe haven for many vulnerable species, and offering a place of solace and recreation for the community.
Therefore, I encourage the city council to pause, reflect and reconsider the ecological impact of the proposed zone change. It is their duty to protect the environment and the community’s interests from a venture that is destructive and unsustainable.
The stakes are high, and the cost of inaction is incalculable. We must stand up and protect our community and its natural resources, for they are the legacy we leave for future generations.
