Students awarded Winslow Nichols Scholarships

Five Columbia Falls seniors have been awarded Winslow Nichols Memorial Scholarships. The Winslow Nichols Memorial Scholarship was established to honor Winslow Nichols, a 2021 graduate of Columbia Falls High School. Winslow’s persona and who he was can best be described in the qualities of this scholarship: integrity, adventure, compassion, and kindness. He had the embodiment of leadership and a sense of moral responsibility for the world around him, which includes the Columbia Falls community.

Twenty seniors were nominated. Five were chosen. They include:

Elaine Reed, who is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in business administration. Reed was nominated by Scoutmaster Heidi Treschel.

Andrew Miner, who plans on a two-year Mission with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and then a degree from Brigham Young University to pursue a degree in sports medicine. Miner was nominated by band instructor Josh Forke.

Walton Nichols will attend Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington where he’ll pursue a business management degree and play men’s soccer. He was nominated by teacher Leslie DiMaio.

Trey Rice plans on attending Flathead Valley Community College for two years and then transferring to Montana State Northern in Havre where he’ll pursue a degree in diesel technology. He was nominated by teacher Ben Schaeffer.

Jack Zimmerly plans on attending FVCC and then transferring to British Columbia. He hopes to become a high school art teacher after graduation. He was nominated by teacher Jeanette Price. Folks interested in supporting the scholarship fund can send payments to:
