Zinke looks to defund Glacier's reservation system

Montana Republican Congressman Ryan Zinke has added an amendment to a federal Interior bill to defund Glacier National Park’s reservation system.
The House Appropriations Committee approved the amendment in a vote earlier this week as part of the Interior, Environment and Related Agencies funding bill for 2024.
Zinke has been a critic of the reservation system, claiming it blocks locals from enjoying Glacier National Park. Reservations can be very difficult to get, as the advanced reservations often sold out in minutes this year. The 24-hour in advance reservations were pretty easy to get in June, but much less so in July, as tourist traffic has ramped up.
Glacier has had a reservation system for several years now for the Sun Road, but it implemented an additional one-day reservation for the Two Medicine and Many Glacier roads this summer, to try to ease congestion there from July 1 to the second weekend in September.
There’s also been significant criticism of Booz Allen Hamilton, the firm that operates recreation.gov for the federal government.
