The winning streak continues. The Columbia Falls boys basketball team walloped Whitefish on the road Thursday 63-28 and then dropped Ronan 64-57 to extend its record to 8-1 overall and 4-0 in conference.

The Wildcats haven’t lost a game since the opener against Corvallis at the tip-off tourney.

Against the Bulldogs, the Cats were led by Cody Schweikert with 15, followed by Alihn Anderson with 13. Jace Hill and Reggie Sapa had 6 apiece. All told, 10 Wildcats ended up in the scoring column, as sign of good ball movement.

Against Ronan, Schweikert had 15, Anderson and Hill had 12 — but again a lot of players scored. All told, seven made the scoring column.

The Cats are averaging 67.7 points per game this season. They’re averaging 52% in two-point attempts and a league-leading 38% on treys.

Point guard Jace Hill is averaging 7.7 assists per game — three more assists than anyone in the league.

“That’s one of the nice things about this team,” coach Chris Finberg said. “We have a lot of guys contributing. Any one of those guys can put the ball in the hoop.”

The road trip for the boys continues this week as they head to Browning Friday, then top-ranked Class B Loyola Sacred Heart in Missoula Saturday and then Bigfork Tuesday night.

It will be a bit of a grind for the squad.

“This is a tough stretch. That’s what we want,”Finberg said.
