The Columbia Falls boys basketball team started the year on the right foot, dropping conference foe Libby 77-46 Thursday and Class B Shelby 77-28 on Saturday.

Cody Schweikert had 15 points to lead the Wildcats against the Loggers. Jace Hill had 14 and Hunter Goodman had 12. Alihn Anderson hit three treys and had 11.

The Loggers committed 24 turnovers in the loss.

The Cats had a big second quarter, as they put up 27, while Libby had 11.

Schweikert also had 15 against Shelby, followed by Mark Robison with 14, Hill, 11 and Hunter Goodman, 9.

“We played pretty well both games,” coach Chris Finberg said. “We were able to create a lot of turnovers.”

The Cats forced 24 turnovers against Libby and 27 against Shelby.

They’re also doing a great job of sharing the ball. Both games they had 21 assists.

“That’s good ball movement,” he said. “It’s contagious.”

The Cats are in the midst of an eight-game road trip.

They travel to rival Whitefish Thursday. Gametime is 7:30 p.m. On Friday they face Ronan on the road.

The Bulldogs have one win on the season, but still it’s a rivalry game, so they’re always fun. The Cats are 6-1 on the year. Ronan is 3-3.
