Boosted by grant, Society interviewing historic figures

| February 8, 2023 9:00 AM

The Columbia Falls Historical Society is beginning to film folks with knowledge of local history thanks to a grant from the Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund.

The Fund recently gave the Society a grant for $3,000 which was used to purchase a Canon video camera and other accessories to do the interviews.

Historical Society secretary Craig Blair has already started interviewing some folks, including Stu Sorensen, who lived up the South Fork at Riverside before the Hungry Horse Dam.

“We would like to set up a kiosk at the museum where people can call up videos to watch,” chairman Peg Sorensen said.

They’re also considering showings of select videos and hope to share videos with the Montana Memory Project. Videos will also be posted on YouTube.

Folks who may know a person with interesting stories of Columbia Falls, Glacier National Park, the Canyon and the Blackfeet Tribe are urged to contact the museum at cfallshistorical@gmail. com or by phone at 406-249-8198.

They can also be reached by mail at PO Box 892,

Columbia Falls, MT 59912.

The museum itself is located at the Gateway Building at the corner of Nucleus Avenue and U.S. Highway 2.
