Glacier Park early reservations go quickly

| February 1, 2023 6:35 AM

Early reservations to the Going-to-the-Sun Road and the North Fork sold quickly on Wednesday morning. The reservations for the Sun Road, particularly later in June, were gone in about 12 minutes, as the Hungry Horse News monitored the recreation.gov site where they were on sale.

Reservations for the North Fork went quickly as well.

The website doesn’t always work very well. It will show tickets for a particular day as being available, but when you click on the link, it will say there are none left.

The Park Service released about 260 reservations for the Sun Road — the west side will see construction this year, which promises to make traveling the road from Apgar to Lake McDonald Lodge a tedious affair anyway.

The road typically opens to Logan Pass in most years by late June, but last year it didn’t open until July 13 after a soggy and snowy spring.

It is important to note that before 6 a.m. and after 3 p.m. a reservation isn’t required, though the park can close an area if it becomes overcrowded.

Folks can still walk or bike into the park with a valid entrance pass without a reservation.

Reservations for Many Glacier and Two Medicine aren’t required until July 1.

Folks still need a valid entrance to pass to get into Glacier, whether they have a reservation or not.

Reservations will also be released 24 hours in advance. Those tickets, however, are even more difficult to get.

The next round of reservations for for the month of July will be released March 1 at 8 a.m. Then April 1, August will be released and May 1, September will be released up until Sept. 10. After Sept. 10, reservations aren't required.
