Girls continue to have a rough go on the road

| December 27, 2023 11:26 AM

The road trip woes continued for the Columbia Falls girls basketball team last week, as they lost to Frenchtown 51-30, Dec. 19.

Overall coach Cary Finberg said the team played better than it has, but there’s still plenty of work to do as the squad heads into the Christmas break.

The Kats ran into some shooting woes, going 0-15 on threes, 5-16 from the line and they missed 10 layups.

“All things considered, I thought we played better than the week before,” he said. “We just need to keep grinding. Keep trying to get better.”

Ellie Stutsman had her best game of her high school career with 13 points and freshman Onnikka Lawrence had 9, but the other starters only mustered 5 points total. The girls will continue to work at it over the break and then will be back on the road again to start January, with a game against Ronan Jan. 2 and then one closer to home in Bigfork Jan. 6.

The tough games early should help them down the stretch, as what really matters is mental and physical toughness come tournament time.

The  Wildkats are 1-5 on the year.
