Cats split in Lewistown as Hill scores 1,000th point

Senior Jace Hill hit a milestone in his high school career over the weekend, scoring his 1,000th point at the East-West tournament in Lewistown.

Hill reached the mark in the fourth quarter as the Wildcats pummeled Glendive 69-24 on Friday.

Hill has started as a point guard for the Wildcats since his freshman year.

Hill had 14 in the win as did teammate Cody Schweikert. Hill accomplished the feat in his 70th game.

Coach Chris Finberg noted it was a nice individual award that capped off a good week.

The Cats forced Glendive into 25 turnovers, while the Cats had just five.

“You do that and you put yourself in a good situation to win,” Finberg said.

The second game of the tourney didn’t quite go the Wildcats’ way, however.

Home team Lewistown edged the Wildcats 55-51.

Finberg noted that Lewistown shot 12 of 25 from beyond the three-point arc, after shooting just 1 for 24 the day before against Dillon.

The Cats meanwhile committed 16 turnovers. Alihn Anderson had a nice game with 15 points and 6 rebounds. Hill had 9, Schweikert had 11 in the loss.

The boys were at home Tuesday night for this first time this season as they faced Frenchtown after press time. The Broncs’ Eli Quinn is a 6-7 guard who average 28 a game. They’ll try to slow him down a little.

“Our schedule has been as tough as anyones,” Finberg said.

The Cats are 1-4 overall, but three of the losses were by a combined 6 points.
