Boys suffer two close losses as they start 0-3
The Columbia Falls boys basketball team had a rough opening week, going 0-3, but two of the losses were by a single point.
The Cats opened the season Tuesday with a loss to Hamilton on the road, 65-64 and then lost to Dillon Friday at the Northwest-Southwest Tip-Off tourney in Frenchtown 51-50. On Saturday, they lost to Class B Loyola, 71-58.
The Hamilton game came down to the wire, as Jace Hill put the Cats up with 40 seconds left, but Hamilton scored in the closing seconds to pull out the win.
Hill had 30 in the loss.
Against Dillon, guard Mark Robison hit six treys and scored 21 points to lead the team, but his last shot with 1.8 seconds left was just short and Dillon came away with the win.
Hill had 12 in the loss.
Against Loyola, the Rams had a 43-28 lead at the break and never gave it up as they shot the lights out of the ball from beyond the arc.
Alihn Anderson had 18, Hill 14 and Schweikert 14 in the loss.
“We played three good teams,” noted coach Chris Finberg. “Two were one possession away from turning into wins. It’s good for us. I’m glad we’re playing this caliber of teams.”
The team is on a long road trip to Lewistown this Friday and Saturday where they’ll face Glendive and Lewistown at the East-West Tip Off tourney.
Next Tuesday they have a home game against Frenchtown. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:15 p.m.
