Columbia Falls senior quarterback Cody Schweikert has verbally committed to play football for the University of Montana Grizzlies.

Schweikert made the announcement on Twitter.

“Thank you to all the people who have supported me. I am blessed to be able to live out every Montana kid’s dream and commit to play football for the Montana Grizzlies,” he tweeted last week.

In a subsequent interview, the 6-foot-3 quarterback said he chose UM because it was close to home and has a great football program.

“I’m kind of lucky,” the affable quarterback said. “I can throw a football pretty well.”

Schweikert said he’s been playing football “for as long as I can remember.”

He said his teammates were the reason for his success.

He’s the youngest son of Jaxson and Suzy Schweikert.

Jaxson is the head football coach at Columbia Falls. Cody comes from an athletic family. All of his siblings — brother Ike, and sisters KJ and Hannah were standout athletes at Columbia Falls.

Schweikert said he plans on studying business at UM.
