Columbia Falls grad loving life covering the Broncos every move

There are few people on the planet that know more about the ins and outs of the Denver Broncos than Columbia Falls native Henry Chisholm.

Chisholm is a Broncos beat reporter for DNVR, a multimedia website in Denver that covers Denver professional and collegiate sports, including the Broncos, Nuggets, Avalanche and Rockies, to name a few.

With the NFL draft coming up and free agency in full swing, Chisholm has been a busy man.

He spends hours watching tape of players, doing deep dive pieces that appeal to the hardcore Broncos fan.

A typical day starts at 9 a.m. and can go as late as midnight as he pores over film, writes stories and does a podcast everyday with colleagues Zac Stevens and Ryan Koenigsberg.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Chisholm said. “It’s also a lot of work.”

Chisholm graduated from Columbia Falls in 2015 and has a bachelor’s degree in journalism and economics from the University of Montana.

He got his start interning for DNVR in college, writing 200-word pieces about players no one else wanted to write about.

That led to a full-time gig with the site after college. He spent three years covering the University of Colorado before moving to the Broncos beat in July of last year.

He has press credentials for all the Broncos home games and while they don’t travel to all the road games, they were on the famed radio row during the Super Bowl.

The Broncos will start the 2023 season with veteran head coach Sean Payton, who led the New Orleans Saints from 2006 to 2021, including a Super Bowl victory in 2009.

So will the Broncos be any good this season?

“Probably not,” Chisholm surmised.

They play in a very difficult division — the AFC West — which means they play Super Bowl champs Kansas City twice in the regular season, as well as the Los Angeles Chargers and Las Vegas Raiders.

The Broncos haven’t had a winning record since 2016 when they went 9-7. Last year they went 5-12 in a disastrous season.

Still, the addition of Payton brings some hope.

“It’s a step in the right direction,” Chisholm said.

Chisholm said he hopes to make it home this July, when the NFL takes a bit of a break before training camps fire up at the end of the month.

His parents, Dean and Penni Chisholm are Columbia Falls attorneys.
