Glacier National Park had another incident of a grizzly catching and eating a moose calf in front of onlookers last month.
This time, while a couple was getting married in Two Medicine, a grizzly grabbed a calf moose from across the lake as the bride and groom exchange vows, according to a video posted on YouTube Aug. 18 by wedding photographer Stanton Giles.
In the video, you can hear the cries of the attack as the bear grabs the calf. The cow moose swims away and you can hear someone in the background say, “Is he OK?”
The bear is well away from the wedding party.
The video has received about 430,000 views on YouTube.
The newspaper could not reach Giles by presstime.
In May, a similar incident played out when a grizzly grabbed a calf moose in front of onlookers at the Many Glacier Hotel.
According to a video posted on social media by Josh Camareno on May 28, the grizzly stalked the moose and her two calves which were bedded down along Swiftcurrent Lake on the edge of the road in front of the hotel.
The grizzly pounced on one calf and killed it and dragged it off.
The grizzly returned a couple of hours later for the second calf and that’s when things got really interesting.
The angry cow moose can be seen chasing the grizzly bear back and forth in front of the hotel on a separate video by Jacob Selcer as it protects its remaining calf.
Both videos are on Instagram and YouTube. Both were apparently taken from the balcony of the hotel, safe from the path of the moose and the bear.
Like people, grizzly bears are omnivores and they eat both meat and plants, so grabbing a calf moose is not out of the ordinary in Glacier, or anywhere bears and moose reside in Montana for that matter.
