Glacier Park sees new fire, others burning locally, too
Hungry Horse News
Warm, dry, weather coupled with lightning storms in the past week has resulted in new fires in the area.
The largest is the Lemonade Fire west of Ashley Lake west of Kalispell at about 540 acres. Crews have been pouncing on the blaze and a Type II team took over management of the fire.
Glacier National Park reported a new fire on Heaven’s Peak that should be visible from the Going-to-the-Sun Road. The fire is small — just 8 acres — and isn’t expected to grow much as it’s in high, rocky terrain.
Still, the fire puts on a show at night.
There is also a fire reported between Grave’s Bay and Margaret Lake near the Hungry Horse Reservoir. That fire didn’t have a name as the Hungry Horse News went to press.
Other fires, despite the heat and dry weather of the past week, didn’t grow much.
The Quartz Fire in Glacier Park grew just a few acres and the Dean Creek and Cannon Fires in the Bob Marshall didn’t grow much either.
No significant rain is expected in the coming days, though it may not be quite as hot this weekend, with highs in the 70s.
