Swimmers 2nd at Fort Benton

| July 27, 2022 12:20 PM

The Columbia Falls summer swim team took second at Fort Benton as it wrapped up the regular season. The squad now heads to the Western Divisional meet in Hamilton this weekend and then state in Lewistown the weekend thereafter.

Coach Kyle Babcock was happy with the team’s progress.

“Our team was similar in size to some very good East and West side teams, and our swimmers were right there in the mix with them. We placed second as a team, and had six of our relays win their events,”  Babcock said.

Tyler Venegas (15-19) lead the boys 15-19 with a first in the 50 butterfly.

Catherine Opalka (11-12) had another solid week for the girls with a first in the 200 IM, the 50 breaststroke and second in the 50 fly.

Teaghan Roe (8 and under) took first in the 100 IM.

Also doing well for the boys were Liam Swank, Evan Keith, Quinten Babcock, Jack Montiel and Dane Montiel (9-10).

Ben Opalka (8 and under) and Tiegan Bates (13-14) also did well.

The girls (9-10) were lead by Payson Scribner, Hazel Bigelow, Kaitlyn Daniels, Anastasia Muhlner and Annika Petersen.

In girls (11-12) Estelle Muhlner and Kensley Cheff had nice performances as did Alanis Petersen and Molly Bagley (13-14).

In (15-19) girls, Avery Role and Rozzlin Taylor also swam well.
