Glacier National Park’s popular Highline Trail has opened for the season, the Park announced Thursday.
The trail runs down the west side of the “Garden Wall” of the Continental Divide from Logan Pass. It’s the most popular and flattest route to get to Granite Park Chalet. The hike is about 7.6 miles to the chalet, one-way.
The trail north of Granite Park is closed due to bear activity.
The Highline Trail opened later than usual this year due to a snowy and wet spring, which also hindered the opening of the Going-to-the-Sun Road to Logan Pass.
The road opened to the pass July 13, tying for the latest opening ever, save for the July 15 opening when the road first opened in 1933.
