Kids fishing day at River’s Edge Park trout pond right after Heritage Days parade

| July 20, 2022 6:30 AM

An afternoon of fun, family, fishing and food is planned immediately after the Heritage Days parade in Columbia Falls on Saturday, July 30.

Fishing poles, bait and instruction as needed will be available for kids for free starting at 1 p.m. and going until 4 at River’s Edge Park in Columbia Falls.

The event is co-sponsored by the Montana Department of Fish Wildlife and Parks, the City of Columbia Falls, and the Columbia Falls Rotary Club. FWP is providing the poles and bait; the city is providing the venue — the new fishing pond in the center of the park.

The Columbia Falls Rotary is working with the city and FWP on a project to build fishing platforms around the pond, and eventually a pier from which children of all ages — 5 to 95 — can have safe and secure access to the pond. The event will kick-off a fundraising effort and awareness campaign for the project.

Hamburgers and hotdogs and drinks will be for sale by the Rotary Club. FWP is also providing free hot dogs for kids under 12.

Parking is limited so parents of fisherkids may want to park at Fenholt Park at the corner of 9th Street and Third Avenue East and walk the four blocks to River’s Edge.
