The Columbia Falls girls basketball team took care of business last week, dropping Ronan on the road Thursday 62-45 and then dumping Whitefish at home Saturday, 62-28.

Maddie Robison led the Wildkats with 20 against Ronan and 15 against the Bulldogs.

Coach Cary Finberg was pleased with the way the girls have been playing coming out of Christmas break.

“We’re taking a step in the right direction and setting the tone defensively,” he said. “I thought our first half against Ronan was our best overall of the year.”

The Kats played stellar defense against the Dogs, allowing just one point in the first quarter as they shot out to an 18-1 lead.

Finberg had kudos for guard Alexis Green, while she didn’t score, she had five rebounds, nine assists and four steals in the win. The Kats forced 27 Bulldog turnovers, 19 in the first half.

On the road against Ronan the game was a bit tighter. The Kats outscored Ronan 12-5 in the second to go up 27-15 at the break.

Grace Gedlaman has been doing well on the post. She had 16 points against Ronan and 12 against Whitefish. She also had 14 boards against the Maidens. Robison had six assists, five steals and four rebounds.

Hope McAtee had nine and 11 respectively against Ronan and Whitefish. In addition to her points, she had 12 boards and seven assists over the two games.

The girls face Browning at home Thursday night in what could be the best game of the regular season. The Kats lost by just a point against the Lady Indians on the road earlier this season.

“If we play like we’re capable of, it’s a game we should win,” Finberg said.

Gametime is 7:15 p.m. The Kats are now 7-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
