Columbia Falls firefighters pounced on a fire at an apartment on Martha Road Wednesday morning, containing it to the contents of a bedroom where it started.

The fire was apparently caused by a child playing with a lighter, fire chief Karl Weeks said.

The call came in at 5:10 a.m. and firefighters were on the scene 14 minutes later.

The apartment suffered smoke and water damage and is uninhabitable, but the other three units in the building were not damaged.

All told, 11 firefighters responded. They were off the scene at 6:58 a.m.
